This September kids and staff celebrated Australian children’s literature and got to dress up as our favourite book characters - a double win!

From 19-25 August, TSH celebrated Children's Book Week, recognising the value that books hold in the education, enjoyment and enlightenment of children. For children struggling with speech and language, books are wonderful for oral language and early literacy development.

TSH librarian Leah Evangelisti popped in to each classroom to read "Australia from dawn to dusk" by Bentos, taking the kids on a visual journey of Australia and describing the animals and key locations in each state (including Rottnest!).

There were also plenty of book-based activities for the kids during the week, including:

  • sensory ideas

  • book marks

  • book scavenger hunt

  • Australian animal scavenger hunt

  • book reviews

  • Read, Grow, Inspire colouring page

  • simple Koala paper plate and hand puppet crafts

  • Quokka book marks

The children had a chance to show off their impressive costumes in a short parade around the playground. Check out some of the pictures from Book Week below.
